As part of the larger Make It In America initiative, yesterday the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5156, the Clean Energy Technology Manufacturing and Export Assistance Act of 2010. According to its main sponsor, California Congresswoman Doris Matsui, the Act will encourage investment in American-made high-tech products and launch an export strategy to bring those products to foreign markets.
H.R. 5156 authorizes annual appropriations up to $15 million for the Clean Energy Technology Manufacturing and Export Assistance Fund, which will be administered through the Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration.
In a related development, the International Trade Administration's Office of Energy and Environmental Industries is currently seeking comments on its proposed National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Export Strategy [pdf]. More information about the proposed strategy and information about sharing comments with the International Trade Administration can be found here. Note that the official deadline for comments has passed, but it appears the comment period is actually still open at this point.
